Camp-In-A-Van
What is Camp-In-A-Van?
Camp-In-A-Van (CIAV) is a weeklong unique blend of outdoor ministries and congregational outreach. It is a partnership between Ferncliff and your congregation. The program is for young people who have completed grades K-6. Separate Junior and Senior high programming is also an option for during the Camp-In-A-Van week. Ferncliff provides programming (staff, crafts, games, curriculum) and the congregation provides support (snacks, etc) and promotes the program. Coordinating shared responsibilities is worked out between Ferncliff’s Program Director, Joel Gill and the congregation’s coordinator.
Purpose
The purpose of CIAV is to assist congregations in providing a "campy" vacation church school at their site. Children get connected to the congregation ministry and their life with Christ as well as getting exposed to what camp is like. CIAV can be a program of outreach and discipleship.
Strength
The strength of Camp-In-A-Van is people. Camp-In-A-Van teams are comprised of young adults who are selected for their Christian commitment, enthusiasm, and love of children. They are trained to lead Bible studies, worship, crafts and recreation. It is relational ministry and the emphasis is to provide quality Christian role models for young people.
Uniqueness
The uniqueness of Camp-In-A-Van is flexibility. Camp Staff will work with each church to design a program specifically to meet the needs of your church. This manual will help your church consider and plan for a Camp-In-A-Van experience this summer
“We have really, really enjoyed the Camp In A Van counselors. The kids had a ball and learned a lot. We loved their energy and willingness to work with us.”
