Surprise Benefit of International Summer Staff

Ferncliff has had international summer counselors every summer since 1999. Each year from 4-8 international counselors are part of the staff team. This year several of our international counselors were already in the states as students: Jorge from Ecuador, Fabiola from Mexico and Linda from Kenya. Others came through international programs like Camp Leaders and Camp Counselors USA: Jordan from Northern Ireland, Therese from England, Olivia from New Zealand, Graham from South Africa. We recently heard from a camper mom how our internationals helped with her daughter's geography lesson:

Thomas and Libby are as wild as ever about Ferncliff and had 2 more fantastic weeks this past summer. They can’t wait for next year. I had to share another unexpected Ferncliff benefit that I learned last night – Libby’s 3rd grade class is learning the continents. I was trying to think if she knew someone from outside the United States and I asked if she knew anyone from Europe. She said “Therese is from England does that count?” And it was easy from then on . . . I’m not sure if I’ve got all the names and continents right, but I think we had Olivia from New Zealand (which we counted as Australia), Graham from South Africa and George from Ecuador. We have a family friend from China, but we were stumped at Antarctica. Soooo . . . . could you please recruit a counselor from Antarctica for next summer so Libby can have a friend on all 7 continents? :-)
