Resident Counselor - Job Description
The Summer Program at Ferncliff is all about being a place where faith and fun flourish. Campers come to have fun, make new friends, learn new skills, and explore creation. In that process we interweave spiritual growth through worship, Bible study, music and many teachable moments.
Summer staff counselors make campers feel welcome, safe, and appreciated for who they are. Counselors enjoy camp with the campers and serve as role models and leaders. It both great fun and great responsibility; it is a chance to grow spiritual, change personally, and develop leadership that will last a lifetime.
Who Are We Looking For?
- Enthusiastic Christians eager for challenge, personal growth and leadership development. Presbyterian heritage, while helpful, it not required.
- Mature college-aged individuals who have a love for children, camping, and the out-of-doors. Staff need to have good judgment and understand the importance of being positive role models.
- Team players that are sensitive to the needs of others. Summer staff provide a multicultural family atmosphere for our camping participants.
Responsibilities:
- serve as counselor to a cabin group of 5-6 campers
- serve as co-counselor with a counselor of the opposite gender to form family group of campers
- attend staff training
- accompany campers and lead them through the day's activities
- serve as a friend and surrogate parent to assigned campers
- monitor camper's general health and condition and report any matters of concern to the Summer Program Director and/or nurse
