Summer Camp Registrations Buck the Trend
While a lot of camps struggled this year with the economy, swine flu and the like, Ferncliff found a way to show a 17% increase in registrations over 2008. Some of the increase came from adding special camps during the weekends between camps. First Presbyterian of Texarkana chose Ferncliff this year for their Family Camp. A special Military Appreciation 4th of July Weekend was a big hit with 15 families who said "this was just what the doctor ordered!"
A second boost came from a couple large churches whose numbers increased exponentially. Kristi Button, DCE at First United Presbyterian in Fayetteville started the ball rolling by signing up her children and friends. Friends encouraged friends and before long 20 campers where the church normally had just a few. David Gill did a presentation at First Presbyterian of Shreveport hoping several might consider Ferncliff and before long the few became 20!
Ferncliff reintroduced Day Camps and had large enrollments of 1st/2nd graders for Discovery Camps. We hope that those who start the camp tradition early, will continue it for many years. Thanks to all the parents, Christian Educators and pastors who encouraged their children and famiies to come to camp! And thanks for a great team of summer staffers who gave the campers a faith-building experience.
