Ferncliff Awarded Energy Corps Position

Welcome Kenny Lackey to the Ferncliff Family as our Energy Corps Member!

Here is a little about Kenny in his own words:

“Born and raised on the Virginian peninsula, I took an early interest in the environment through the farmland and Chesapeake waterways around me, and frequent trips to the Blue Ridge mountains across the state.  For most of my life the outdoors was something to visit and revere, a break from the classroom.  After graduate studies in Boston focusing on topics in Philosophy and Theology, I stayed in the city for several more years with an office job until I spent one fine summer week volunteering on a Pennsylvania farm that altered the course of my life and my relationship to our natural world.  I was inspired by the the actively engaged, cooperative relationship with the earth I saw there, and within a year I had transitioned to life as a full-time farmer.  After one season apprenticing in New York, I moved to Arkansas to work as a farm education volunteer with Heifer Ranch.  I am thrilled that I am now joining the Ferncliff staff with a shared vision of sustainable living, environmental awareness, and community engagement.  It’s a truly unique opportunity and I anticipate many wonderful experiences, fulfilling work, and new friendships along the way.”

Kenny will take care of our farm and garden area as well as help with building our Eco-Center.  He will help Ferncliff become a ‘greener’ and more energy efficient facility, connect us with local farmers to infuse our dining with more local produce, and develop a program to where our mission teams will help low income families with home weatherization.
